However, 2023 unfolded as a transformative period for the artist as he delved deeper into solo artistry, showcasing his individuality not only through music but also in the realm of acting. Amidst the challenges and triumphs, his devoted &U, stood as a steadfast pillar of support.

In an exclusive interview, Kim Jonghyeon shares insights into his creative process, the inspiration for "Brilliant Seasons," and his vision for the journey ahead, offering fans a closer look at the man behind the music.
Hello, Kim Jonghyeon! Congratulations on the release of your 2nd mini album, “Brilliant Seasons.” What messages or feelings do you hope fans take away from your new music?
I hope our &Us, starting 2024 with this album, will only feel joyful and happy emotions.
Can you share the inspiration behind the title 'Brilliant Seasons' for the album and how it reflects the overall theme of the album?
I wanted to create an album that resonates with a broader audience rather than drawing inspiration from something specific. So, for this album, I chose to express life through the metaphor of seasons. Just as every day is not always sunny and warm like spring, there are days with storms, thunder, and challenges. However, I wanted to convey the positive message that, just like how a brilliant rainbow appears at the end of a storm, every experience eventually adds brightness to life. So, the title 'Brilliant Seasons' reflects the idea that all events in life contribute to making it splendid.
What else inspired you to write the songs in this album?
I often find inspiration in my daily life. However, while working on this album, my focus was more on creating songs that resonate with a wider audience, rather than solely relying on personal inspiration.
"Don't Worry" was released as a gift for fans. What inspired this song, and what message do you hope to convey to your dedicated &U?
This song was created during the first mini-album project. It carries the message, 'Don't worry, everything will be fine.' Hoping that this positive message connects even more with &Us, I also performed "Don't Worry" as the final stage during the recent fan concert.
Speaking of &U, what was your most memorable moment with &U?
Every moment with &Us is cherished, but the fan meeting [Hi]—the first event after the creation of &Us—stands out the most in my memory. Thanks to the many &Us who came to see me, I gained a lot of courage. I aspire to be someone who can inspire courage in our &Us as well.
"Motto" expresses your ambition to approach the song with a positive mindset. How do you maintain this positivity, and what advice would you give to aspiring artists?
I generally have the mindset of doing my best regardless of the challenges that come my way. To all those dreaming and aspiring artists, while not everything may work out perfectly if you believe that the path you're taking is the right one, I sincerely hope you move forward without hesitation.
What aspect(s) do you believe are the most important when working on new music?
The most important thing I consider is probably &U. I hope that every album and every song I release can be a gift to our &Us.
How would you describe your writing style? Has it changed or evolved over the years?
My working style hasn't changed significantly. After creating a basic framework with the help of those involved in the songwriting process, I often add details while working at home. Then, I revisit the nearly completed work, discuss it with many people, and refine it to create a better piece.
You’ve been performing for over a decade. Is there a specific song’s lyrics that you’ve written that you can never forget?
The NU'EST song, "Darkness,” from the first studio album, 'Re:Birth' comes to mind. The lyrics "일방통행 그 반대로 난 걸었어" (One-way street, but I walked in the opposite direction) are unforgettable for me. These lyrics provoke a lot of thoughts and hold special meaning to me.
Can you give us a hint about your next activities? Is there anything fans should look forward to seeing from you in 2024?
I'm planning to spend more time with our &Us! Also, through the drama "My Friend's Graduation," I think I'll be able to greet you all as an actor! Please look forward to actor Kim Jonghyeon as well.
