HWI YOUNG: Hi, readers of Hellokpop, This is HWI YOUNG from SF9. Nice to meet you.
Congratulations on your upcoming solo debut. Could you please tell us more about the song “Drive5?”
HWI YOUNG: The song is a mixture of a rhythmical beat with breaking-up-themed lyrics. It’s like a late-night snack since it’s good to listen, especially at night time.
What would you say is your favorite lyric from the song and why?
HWI YOUNG:
"We are all gonna break down.
It’s gonna be hard for a moment
But don’t worry, cause we are fast"
I chose this part because the lyrics are easy to understand and simple.
FANTASY has been eager for this moment since seeing your solo performance of “HBD” during SF9’s tour last year. How does it feel to greet everyone with your solo debut finally? What do you want to show fans?
HWI YOUNG: Actually, it’s a new start for me, so it’s not easy to imagine a specific image. However, I’m going to try to pile up my career in various ways, so please look forward to it.
What was the reaction of the other SF9 members when they heard that you were making your solo debut?
HWI YOUNG: Everyone cheered for me but did not give me any pressure.
You actively take part in creating your own music, writing, and composing. What does your day look like in a recording studio?
HWI YOUNG: I think I get a bit more sensitive whenever I try to create a perfect work, but I believe it is necessary to become a better artist.
When you’re in a musical headspace and want to write music, do you have any habits or rituals you swear by?
HWI YOUNG: I tend to write down a lot of ideas as they come to mind and use them when I need them.
It's been 7 years since your debut this year! What has been the highlight of your journey so far? What are some of the moments that have made you feel like you've grown and evolved as an artist?
HWI YOUNG: I think growth and development should be continued until the moment I quit this job since I believe that I still need to work harder. For now, the most memorable moment would be when “Drive5” was released. I think there are not many people who live their lives thinking about just a specific day. And I’m a person who tends to focus on the present.
You have a lot of songwriting credits under your name, such as SF9’s music and your own music. But what do you think represents HWI YOUNG best?
HWI YOUNG: I'm not sure yet. I think it’s more professional to write it according to each song, so I’m thinking about whether I’ll be able to write a song that expresses myself well.
If there is one thing you would like to be remembered for, what would it be?
HWI YOUNG: It’s good to be an artist who is remembered for one thing, but I want to be the artist that many people love in this present time.
