K-pop boy group DUSTIN made its first appearance in the music scene on January 6, 2020, with the release of their digital single "Burn."
This talented group highlights each member's distinct flair, contributing to their dynamic sound and performance. Siu serves as the lead vocalist and lead dancer, captivating audiences with his powerful vocals and dynamic stage presence. Notably, he has also choreographed the group's songs "Crazy" and "Blacklist," showcasing his creativity and talent. Lake, the sub-vocalist, adds a harmonious layer to their sound, showcasing his vocal skills and contributing to the group's overall musicality. Seunggi, the main dancer and sub-rapper, is known for his impressive and energetic performances, while Raphael, the group's rapper, vocalist, visual, and maknae, rounds out the lineup with his charisma and charm.
DUSTIN has showcased its versatility and artistic growth through a series of compelling releases. Their second album, Crazy, arrived on September 3, 2022, followed by their third album, Blacklist, which dropped on June 1, 2023. Most recently, they released their first special album, New Love, on October 13, 2023, with the title track capturing the hearts of fans. Now, they are set to enchant listeners once again with their latest album, Round A Round, released on October 1, 2024.
In an exclusive interview, DUSTIN shares their thoughts on their journey and the creative process behind their fourth album, Round A Round. They delve into the inspirations that shaped this latest project and the unique themes explored in their music. As the group continues to build their fanbase, this conversation provides a glimpse into their aspirations and the meaningful connections they hope to forge with audiences around the world.
Hello DUSTIN. It’s nice to meet you. Could you please introduce yourself and your role in DUSTIN?
DUSTIN: Always! Hello, we are DUSTIN!
Siu: Hello, I am Siu, the leader and main vocalist of DUSTIN.
Seunggi: Hello, I am Seunggi, the main dancer of DUSTIN.
Lake: Hello, I am Lake, the adorable one of DUSTIN.
Raphael: Hello, I’m Dustin’s Brazil member – Main rapper Raphael!
Congratulations on the release of your 4th album, [Round A Round]! How would you describe the overall concept or theme?
DUSTIN: It's an electric pop song that highlights a grand sound and a strong beat, featuring especially addictive dance sections and verses.
What inspired the title "Round A Round"? Is there a specific meaning behind it?
DUSTIN: The concept showcases the four elite members of DUSTIN as heroes. By day, they are kind, wealthy young men, but by night, they transform into courageous black agents who protect the city and its people. For reference, the name 'DUSTIN' comes from ancient German, meaning 'brave warrior.' This concept draws inspiration from movies like Mission Impossible and Batman.
If you had to choose three words to describe [Round A Round], what would they be and why?
DUSTIN: Round. Darkness. Light. Just as the Earth is round, the journey of life is filled with hardships, adversity, and trials. However, if you persevere through these challenges and navigate life steadily, you will ultimately find the light.
What are you most excited to showcase during your performances of this album on stages like MBC’s Show Champion?
DUSTIN: We want to let everyone know that there’s a K-pop boy group called DUSTIN!
How did you support and encourage each other as a group in the moments before your Show Champion appearance?
DUSTIN: Recognizing that we still have areas to improve, we made sure to support and encourage each other so we wouldn’t feel discouraged. We even shared some coffee together and gave it our all.
Can you take us through your emotions and thoughts leading up to your Show Champion performance?
DUSTIN: Except for Siu, the other members were quite nervous since it was their first time appearing on a broadcast like Show Champion. Despite that, we were determined to show everything we had prepared and are proud to have finished successfully.
If you had to pick a DUSTIN track to recommend to new listeners, which would it be and why?
DUSTIN: First, we want to recommend "Round A Round" because it's our latest comeback song, and we’re excited to share it with as many people as possible. Aside from that, we recommend "New Love" in hopes that those discovering DUSTIN for the first time will find new love for our music and continue to support us.
How do you stay motivated and inspired as an artist?
DUSTIN: Seeing well-known and active artists in the industry inspires us to work even harder, as we hope to promote in Korea and gain wide recognition as a group. This motivation drives us to give our best every day.
What’s one message you'd like to share with your fans who have been supporting you throughout your career?
DUSTIN: Thank you for always supporting us, even though DUSTIN still has room to grow. We promise to show you our best so we can become a group you can be proud of.
Lastly, what are DUSTIN's goals for the remainder of 2024 and beyond?
DUSTIN: We hope to successfully complete our comeback activities, as well as our upcoming overseas tour and schedules. We also hope that more people will come to know and remember DUSTIN, even more than they do now.
