OMEGA X Discusses 'IYKYK,' US Tour, And Love For FOR X

Get ready to dive into the vibrant world of OMEGA X, a powerhouse boy group redefining the K-Pop landscape.

Comprising 11 talented members – Jaehan, Hwichan, Sebin, Hangyeom, Taedong, Xen, Jehyun, Kevin, Junghoon, Hyuk, and Yechan – this powerhouse ensemble burst onto the K-Pop scene on June 30th, 2021, with their debut mini-album, "VAMOS." Under the creative umbrella of IPQ Entertainment since July 3, 2023, OMEGA X stands out as a remarkable second chance group, with each member having previously contributed their talents to other K-Pop groups.

The name OMEGA X is far from arbitrary. Rooted in the Greek alphabet, "Omega" signifies 'the end' or 'final,' embodying the group's ambitious pursuit of being the 'final boss' in the dynamic landscape of the K-Pop industry. Their journey is a testament to resilience and the pursuit of excellence. Known to their devoted fans as FOR X (프엑기), a play on the Korean term "poaegi" meaning "for baby," OMEGA X has ingeniously blended the two syllables of 'X' with the similar sounds of 'baby.' This linguistic fusion, coupled with the endearing moniker "FOR X baby/babies" in English, paints a vivid picture of the close bond between the group and their dedicated followers.

OMEGA X recently dropped their third mini-album, "IYKYK" (If You Know, You Know), on November 7, 2023, solidifying their position as trendsetters in the music industry. This was followed by their captivating "KEEP GOIN'" tour, which delighted audiences in the United States and Mexico from November 24 to December 10, 2023.

Recently, I had the opportunity to connect with OMEGA X, delving into their journey, aspirations, and the dynamic energy that characterizes their presence in the ever-evolving world of K-Pop. Check out the exclusive interview with the amazing members of OMEGA X below.

Hi, OMEGA X; thank you for taking the time to speak with me. Please introduce yourselves and what you are in charge of in OMEGA X.

Jaehan: Hello, I’m OMEGA X’s leader, Jaehan.

Hwichan: Hello, I’m OMEGA X’s Hwichan. I’m in charge of beautiful vocals and a handsome face in the group.

Sebin: Hello, I’m OMEGA X’s Sebin! I’m the happy virus and the cool guy in the team!

Hangyeom: Hello, I’m OMEGA X’s Hangyeom. I rap, sing, dance, write lyrics, produce songs, and make choreography.

Taedong: Hello, I’m OMEGA X’s Taedong. I’m in charge of clean dance moves in the group.

Xen: Hello, I’m OMEGA X’s all-rounder, Xen!

Jehyun: Hello, I’m Jehyun, the one in charge of vocals, dance, and sexiness in OMEGA X,

Kevin: Hello, I’m OMEGA X’s Kevin! Unlike the tough and cool members, I’m in charge of being petite with one spoon of cuteness!

Junghoon: I’m Junghoon, the main dancer and vocalist.

Hyuk: Hello! My name is Hyuk! I’m in charge of having a great physique in the team.

Yechan: Hello! I’m the multi-talented youngest member of the group, Yechan!

Congratulations on your comeback with iykyk. Can you tell us a little more about this album?

Hangyeom: It's been a long time since we released an album. As you already know, iykyk stands for "if you know, you know, you know." It means, “You already know even if we don’t say it, right?” It's our third mini album, which contains the small but definite happiness in our daily lives. We've included five songs that are cool, beautiful, and pleasant to listen to, so please show a lot of love and support!

What messages or feelings do you hope fans take away from your new music?

Kevin: I hope they think, “OMEGA X has always released good songs, but I can't believe they’re releasing such a good song again…” I also hope our fans feel excited and proud about what amazing songs we will return with in the future.

Some members contributed to the album's creative process. Can you tell us more about the individual contributions made by each member?

Jaehan: In this album iykyk, I participated in producing two songs, “TOUCH” and “ISLAND.” I also participated in writing the lyrics. To ensure that all five songs narrate OMEGA X's story, I had extensive conversations with the members and produced the songs happily.

What were your feelings about the title track “JUNK FOOD” the first time you heard it?

Taedong: There were many candidates for the title track, but from the moment I listened to"JUNK FOOD," I couldn’t remember any of the other songs. It was that impactful of a song.

What do you think the killing part of “JUNK FOOD” is?

Xen: Of course, I think it's the chorus of the first verse which I sang! I sang it in an addictive way.

Which song from iykyk would you personally recommend to listeners?

Hyuk: I like the title track, “JUNK FOOD,” but I like “ISLAND,” one of the b-sides, the most. I think the listeners will feel happy when they listen to it.

You seem to have a lot of fun together. Are there any memorable behind-the-scenes stories from recording the album or shooting the music video?

Sebin: Come to think of it, I actually remember eating a lot of junk food when recording. I think this is the behind-the-scenes story that goes best with the album. Oh! Junghoon's mother's gimbap was not junk food, but it was very delicious.

Speaking of the music video, the music video for “JUNK FOOD” is so cool. Can you tell us more about the inspiration behind it?

Junghoon: I don't think we’ve talked about this anywhere else yet. The music video was inspired by the public's perspective on the media. It also refers to the meaning of our album. I think it'll be fun for people to guess and find out what kind of media the various objects and images in the music video represent.

Various concept photos were released to promote iykyk. Do you have a favorite outfit or concept image?

Jehyun: I think I like my ON version picture where I’m wearing a beanie. I haven't tried it

often, but I liked the outfit because it had a lot of trendy Y2K vibes.

Which member do you think perfectly fits the new concept the best?

Hwichan: All the members pulled off this new concept well, but I think Hangyeom suits it the best. He suits the intense hip-hop base.

Building on the album's creative journey, we were excited to hear about your U.S. tour. What were some of the best surprises you encountered during the tour? Is there a particular song from your discography that you were excited to perform live?

Yechan: Whenever we performed “TAKE’EM ALL,” the fans always seemed to have a lot of fun, as if we were having a party together. Also, we couldn't show you this time, but in the future, we want to show you a unit performance that shows the different chemistry between the members!

Besides your cell phone, what two things must you bring on tour with you?

Sebin: I always bring my pajamas. I also bring my cleansing foam and sunscreen. My skin is precious!

Do you have any pre-show routines before you step onstage?

Hangyeom: I take out my in-ears to hear the fans' cheers. When I hear the fans' cheers before I go on stage, I get more energy. I change from just Song Hangyeom to OMEGAX’s Song Hangyeom. I always love you, and thank you. FOR X, I love you so much!

For newer fans who might be meeting you for the first time on tour, how would you describe OMEGA X in one word or phrase?

Hyuk: We are always happy because the 11 of us are together. If you see us happy, you will naturally be happy too! Happiness = OMEGA X!
